So i am introducing my first praying mantis a Gaint asian praying mantis - official name is Green Bean, nickname - greenie beanie. She is the first praying mantis that i got and is a little old lady now about a year and 2 months old. She is an absolute little angel, the most perfect friendly and well mannered praying mantis.
Hierodula membranacea also know as giant asian mantis come from surprise suprise Asia. They are mostly commonly green but i gotta say that my Green Bean has more blue undertones than pure green.
I got her when she was about 2cm big and over the last year has grown to 9cm. She is a big eater! I currently feed her crickets and the occasional meal worm but have to be careful not to overfeed her. She is quite active and will chase any prey in her tank.
Unfortunately i didn't get the humdity quite right and her last molt her wings came out slightly curled but luckily it was only a small issue as has effected her life in any way. thinking about it i have never actually seen her defense pose to see the extent of the curling.
