Katy L. Day is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bristol, UK, working across digital painting, traditional painting, and handmade crafts. Her vibrant surrealist works are rooted in automatic drawing, layered brushwork, and colour palettes inspired by nature and the changing seasons.
Drawing from classical painting techniques—particularly the Old Masters' method of building colour through thin layers—Katy uses a refined selection of five tonal hues plus white to create atmospheric, dreamlike compositions. Her textures are crafted through the interplay of three distinct brushes, lending depth and movement to her pieces.
Influenced by mythology, art history, and the subconscious, Katy’s work explores themes of creative joy, neurodivergence, femininity, and the role of art in society. A graduate of the BA Drawing course at Falmouth University, she has been developing her practice at D-Unit Studios for the past three years.
Currently, she is focused on a new body of surrealist artwork that emerges entirely from her imagination—moving away from reference images and leaning more deeply into intuitive, inner landscapes.
